Sorloth Out of Atlético
Atlético de Madrid confirmed Alexander Sorloth’s injury. The Norwegian forward, who trained on the sidelines at the Ciudad Deportiva in Majadahonda, will miss his third consecutive match. He will not be in the Metropolitano squad for the upcoming Sunday 23 August match against Villarreal.
Status of Other Players
Coach Diego Pablo Simeone did not call up Julián Álvarez, who joined the preseason on 10 August, nor Cristian “Cuti” Romero, who joined training on Saturday. Obed Vargas and Thomas Lemar were also not included in the squad for the match against Málaga or the friendly against Olympique de Marseille. Both players remain in normal training.
Preparation for the Clash
Atlético finished its preparation on Saturday 22 August ahead of the clash with Villarreal at the Metropolitano. Sorloth’s absence leaves the team with a confirmed injury, while the rest of the squad remains available for the encounter.
